What are your thoughts on a Dubai career? I want to share my experience when searching for a job in Dubai in the summer of 2008. I live in Seattle Washington and I first started my Dubai job search online.

I quickly found how much competition is against me. Half the time I would apply for a position the recruiter online will tell me that the position is no longer available.


A month into the process I wasn’t finding any luck. There were many job vacancies in Dubai according to the websites but I just could not find any luck.

The more I researched the more I came to realize that employers in Dubai don’t consider you as a serious candidate until you make a trip out there.

But then again even if you go there you are not guaranteed a job. You will have to spend a lot of money on flights, your hotel stay, a car rental and go through so much hassle. You will also have to take time off from work.

It is not easy to secure a job in Dubai. The jobs are very good and I would still like to pursue a career in Dubai. However it is not easy. Be prepared for the challenges and the rejection.

But if you can land one, you are all set for the time being. There is no income tax in Dubai. If you are in a good field, you can have your employer pay for housing allowance and a free ticket to your home country.
