This event is a classic indeed as it portrays golf at its best in Dubai.

In 2009, Dubai will hit a landmark of sorts with the 20th anniversary of the prestigious Dubai Desert Classic.

Seems like it was only just yesterday that the Emirates first entered the world of golf in a big fashion.

Today this Dubai golf event attracts a stellar cast as people flock from far and wide to enjoy the golf and the famed hospitality of Dubai.

Even if you aren’t a golf fan per se, the Desert Classic serves up an experience that should not be missed out on.

Crown Jewel of the European Tour

Gradually, the nickname of ‘Crown Jewel’ has stuck to the Dubai Desert Classic, and it is indeed that.

Hosted at the sparkling diamond that is the Emirates Golf Club, the very first match played on its groups was billed as ‘the Desert Miracle’, and was an East vs. West challenge match that featured Graham Marsh and Rodger Davis representing the East, while Howard Clark and Sam Torrance represented the West.

Instantly, the Emirates Golf Club drew a crowd, including many royals, and it was no surprise to anyone that it was included in the European Tour from the next year up till this very day.

Already luxurious, the Emirates Golf Club has gone from strength to strength and now offers a wealth of opulent and luxurious facilities to cater to even the most discerning tastes, while somehow also catering to the sports enthusiasts that head to Dubai in droves.

With the addition of the Wadi course in 1996, a further 18 holes were added to the Dubai golf club. For certain, the Desert Classic is a jewel within the world of golf and sports.

In truth, there is a reason that this grand event attracts the biggest names in golf as well as some of the largest crowds of golf lovers. Golfers come for the prestige of conquering one of the toughest courses around, while supporters arrive to witness who the next victims of the desert will be.
