Hi, Sunil here with a review on Lonely Planet Dubai Encounter

I read this book in lightning speed and maybe I need to go back and read it a bit slower the next time around to get a better appreciation for it.

I have read some very good reviews on it but have given it a 1 star myself.

Remember, a 1 star isn’t a bad thing.

It just means that I personally found the book to be average.

This book discusses a lot of the basic touristy information that you would expect to get from a Dubai travel guide.

It promises to help you see Dubai city as much as you can in the limited time you have.


I found the Dubai maps to be a bit old (not updated) but maybe the newer versions will fix this.

Can’t really blame them much as Dubai is changing by the day.


The roads, street names are just now being established.

I mean everyone has a P.O. Box because you can’t really send mail where the streets have no name (just like Steve Bono would say).

I found the customized daily itineraries pretty neat. You can pretty much take one of these and make your plans all around it. It is a good travel book on Dubai with your standard tips and facts on the city.

The book provides good recommendations on places to go and shop. I have read it and agree with the material presented. It’s not as comprehensive as the other travel guide of Dubai – All Things Dubai.
