The Dubai Shopping Festival, for example, is a yearly event that was originally started to help boost the retail trade in Dubai.
Since its beginning in 1996 it has been promoted as a tourist attraction. Each year it attracts about 3 million people.
It is the region’s largest and longest running shopping extravaganza. What is the appeal of this festival? Well if the obvious has escaped you, it’s the shopping! Shop owners offer deep discounts on their already ridiculously low priced merchandise.
There are daily car raffles, fireworks and an exhaustive smattering of various goods. The festival is set up like an enormous global shopping village with traditional and cultural influences adorning the various shops.
The festival is divided into many tiny attractions designed to open the minds of the attendees to the various cultural influences. Dubai has become a melting pot in recent years and the festival creates awareness and engenders respect for the various cultures.
The Dubai World Cup is a tribute the UAE Vice President’ love of horses and horseracing. There is a long legacy of Arab presence in international thoroughbred racing. On the international scene Arab contenders have won trophies in the United States, Great Britain, France and Japan.
The World Cup brings world-class racing back to the Peninsula the home of its original ancestor. Horse racing was born in the Emirate in October 1981 and hosted by the dusty Camel Track.
A little more than a decade later the world-famous racing stable Godolphin was christened followed by the inaugural Dubai World Cup meeting that was held in 1996. Each year more than 50,000 race lovers attend the Dubai World Cup Meeting.
It is considered a first-class tourist destination. The meeting traditionally takes place in late March and is the largest grossing event bringing in an amazing revenue of $26.25 million making it the richest race in the world.
As you can see whether you’re a sports lover or a thoroughbred enthusiasts Dubai holds something for everyone. As the greatest tourist spot in the world there is no shortage of events to attend.
