employment visa in Dubai

by jazz hernandez
(Sharjah)

I've been working for almost one year in a medical center here in Sharjah, UAE, my employment visa was already expired and not stamp to my passport. My boss keep on promising me that he will stamp it.

Now I have 7 months penalty and I'm planning to resign but I am worrying that my boss will not pay my penalty. Do I have to pay for my penalty if I will file a resignation.

Another problem is I'm not getting my salary for two months and this end of month it'll be three months .. Please help me.. Thank You

You are liable
by: Gregory

You are liable for your own visa, status and everything else pertaining to it. If you do not have anything in writing from your employer, your word will not hold much weight. you will be served better if you consult a legal professional. but your case is a common one many employees are experiencing in Dubai. you have to abide by the rules. if your employer promises something, get it in writing, or simply stop working when your contract has expired and take necessary actions.

as far as salary, how often are you paid? why does your boss "owe" you a salary? were you not paid for a few months? if so, why didn't you stop working at that point?
