• Dubai is not a country. It is one of 7 Emirates in the country of the United Arab Emirates.



• Dubai is not drowning in oil wealth. Less than 7% of Dubai’s annual GDP comes from oil revenues. It is Abu Dhabi (the UAE capital and largest Emirate) which is oil rich. Dubai’s oil reserves are estimated to last through 2020. But Abu Dhabi's is projected through 2100 and even beyond.



• Shorts, skirts and an uncovered head for ladies is allowed in Dubai.



• The inconic Burj Al Arab (the only 7 star hotel in the world as of 2009) is in Dubai.



• The largest man made port is in Dubai (Jebel Ali port).



• Dubai has increased its land mass since 2008 by developing land on water (man made islands).



• The UAE as a whole is the 4th largest oil producer in OPEC, behind Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela.



• The UAE as a whole provides nearly 25% of Japan’s oil requirements, as well as has the third largest oil reserve in the world (the Middle East has approximately 65% of the world’s oil reserve, of which the UAE is the third largest). Saudi alone has over 25% of the world’s oil reserve.



• UAE as a whole is a low land once under sea level.



• The UAE has the world’s highest per capita income (thanks to Abu Dhabi).



• The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is ranked as the 20th largest oil and gas company in the world.



• UAE has spent an average US$1.4 billion per year on domestic development since it started exporting oil in 1964.
