	Outdoor Activities in Dubai for You & the Family Hi, Sunil here to talk about some of our favorite outdoor activities in Dubai. I am an outdoor sports person. I enjoy sporty activities (someone convince Kish to get into it please!). With the development of the Dubai Sports City in the Dubailand area, the interest in sporting activities is becoming stronger than before. Think about it, what does Dubai not have? I doubt you could think of anything. From rugby, cricket, golf, tennis to any major sport including camel back and horse racing, Dubai has everything related to sports. And despite the generally warm temperatures, outdoor activities in Dubai like sports are increasingly becoming popular. So I thought I’d take some time and dedicate this section to outdoor activities in Dubai that I enjoy best. In addition to sports, there are other outdoor activities that are popular in the Dubai tourism industry that you can engage in as part of your Dubai sightseeing experience. I hope you can take away something of value to you from this brief list of things to do in Dubai. Desert Safari and Dune Bashing This is one of my personal favorite outdoor activities in Dubai. I simply can’t get enough of it. Dune bashing is the highlight of the Dubai desert safari tour. There is nothing like bashing piles of sand with a 4 by 4 while going up and down the sand hills. As a warning, do not do this if you are a heart patient. This can be a great group activity or you can do it alone if you want. You won’t be alone as you will see so many others dune bashing no matter which day you go. You can spend half a day, all day or even the night by renting one of the tents. Dubai Big Bus Tour Double Decker Hop on and Hop Off - Something for everyone to enjoy and a great introduction to Dubai City. Golfing in Dubai The Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and the Emirates Golf Club are both world renown and venues of the European PGA tour. Some others include The Nad Al Sheeba Golf and Racing Club where you can gold at night. Fishing Fishing was Dubai’s main bread and butter before its commercial expansion. Marine life is abundant in Dubai and nearby. You will find all kinds of fish here. You can hire fully-equipped boats, with the crew. You can also go deep sea fishing. Look up the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club if you are interested in this. Dubai Creek Tour You can enjoy a professional tour of the Dubai Creek and see the new and old Dubai side by side while enjoying your journey. Many of the tours are carried out by traditional wooden dhows or Abras (the water taxi) which will take you from the glass-and-steel office blocks of Bur Dubai to the Gold and Spice Souks of Deira. Look up Creekside Leisure if interested. Wadi-Driving Discover the wadis (bodies of water) or dry beds of streams that flow after winter rains from the Hajar mountains. Desert Feasts Enjoyed mostly during the tail end of safari tours – where you sit down to enjoy spectacular views of the sunset followed by a traditional Arab barbecue under the stars. Some tours include taste of the Arabic music and belly dancing and the smoking of the hookah pipes. Horse Racing One of the more popular events in Dubai. It is part of local tradition, and a place where all the elite are often found. The Dubai Equestrian Centre and Jebel Ali Hotel Riding Stables are the two main hotspots. Look for Zabeel stables. Camel Racing Yes very odd, but a traditional sport that has come back under spotlight in recent years. Races are held every Thursday, Friday, Sunday and sometimes Monday mornings. The racing season is from October until April. Enjoy this unique outdoor experience in Dubai while there. Sand-Skiing A mix of speed and heights, very unusual and not for the heart patient at all. You will ski down the dunes of the Dubai desert. Air Tours Helicopters, small airplanes and hot air balloons tours are all available in Dubai. You definitely want to do this one to view the man made Dubai islands (Palm, Dubai World, etc). You will also get to experience the desert and mountains from up high. Look up Amigos Balloons if interested. Entertainment Theme Parks in Dubai (more under development) Wild Wadi Acres and acres of water with 23 rides to entertain everyone. Water wave pools, high rise slides, everything you can think of. This is one of Dubai’s oldest fun destinations. It includes a 10 pin bowling area, a crawling bungie jungle, and tons of other electronic games. It even has put put golf. Wonderland Another family fun park which includes water attractions and a Caribbean cruise. It is closed on Sundays, and Wednesdays are for ladies only. Thursdays are for families only so plan in advance.
