The British Embassy Abu Dhabi
This articles discusses the British Embassy Abu Dhabi and its long history in the United Arab Emirates. The United Kingdom has had a relationship with the United Arab Emirates since the early 1940’s, back when the UAE was known as the Tucial States. As a result of the oil boom and subsequent wealth, the Trucial States decided to become independent from all outside forces and formed what is known today as the United Arab Emirates. The UK has still maintained diplomatic relations with the UAE, though. You’ll find when you visit Abu Dhabi that there are many British nationals living and working there as well as in the other Emirates. It’s because of these citizens, in addition to maintaining diplomacy, that the British Embassy is so important. Now that I’ve given you a bit of background information, I’ll tell you what the British Embassy Abu Dhabi can do for you provided that you are a British citizen or national of the United Kingdom. They offer you certain Consular services such as document legalization (attesting to the authenticity of a signature or seal on a document), a full list of notarial services (including but not limited to: preparing certain documents, certificates, and declarations, oath administration, supplying a witness, and making or verifying document copies), passport and visa service (including emergency passport/travel document preparation), and providing death, birth, and marriage certificates.
The Embassy is located at 22 Khalid bin Al Waleed Street in Abu Dhabi. They have regular office hours of 7:30am to 2:30pm Sunday to Thursday with the consular staff available between 8:00am and 1:00pm on those days. You won’t be able to get in before 8am so don’t bother going before then. Also, you want to be absolutely certain to bring some form of valid identification or you won’t be allowed inside the building. The British Embassy Abu Dhabi accepts payment for Consular services via credit card or you may pay in cash using UAE Dirhams. In addition to the service I’ve already told you about, the Embassy staff can provide you with certain assistances if you find yourself in trouble or in need of counsel. They may be able to provide you support in the event that your passport is stolen or if you find yourself hurt and in the hospital as a result of a serious crime committed against you. In the case of natural disasters or acts of terrorism, the Embassy may be able to help you seek refuge or escape from danger as soon as is possible. All in all, your Embassy will be there for you when you are abroad in Abu Dhabi so don’t hesitate to contact them if you are in need of assistance.
