Having an educational and practical business background I had to pick this book up and see what it is all about.

This book is written by one of the best scholars on Dubai, Aamir A. Rehman.

He is a global strategist and advisor to Fortune 500 companies.

It discusses the energy, financial services, hospitality/tourism, retail, real estate, technology sectors as well as the many other industries that are booming in Dubai and the rest of the Gulf region.

You will read about the strategies on how to approach doing business in the Gulf region to manage risks as much as possible.

One important thing to realize is that there are equally as many drawbacks that are often not discussed about business in Dubai that are specifically pointed out in this book.

It surely opened my eyes as I lost track of much of the negatives in light of all the hype around the positives of doing business in Dubai.

It is truly a comprehensive guide on doing business in the Gulf region from a practical perspective. It makes sure that you become aware of all the challenges and not get lost in the hype around the “up and up” much like I did! And if you are a corporate executive or just anyone wanting to learn more about how your company can succeed in Dubai or the gulf region in general, this book will provide you will a step by step plan of action.

And to supplement that and provide a bit more inspiration, there are stories about other companies who have been there are done that.

You will be able to see how others have taken advantage of a massive growth opportunity for their companies.

I finished this book in 2 weeks in about 4 reads. It is not that hard to get through. It is very objective and makes you really think about what to consider if you want to capitalize on the huge growth potential Dubai has to offer.

I was having flashbacks of my corporate strategy class in University while I was reading this. I definitely recommend this book.

I was debating between a 2 or 3 star rating for this book. The only reason I gave it a 2 instead of a 3 star is because this is a specialized topic that not everyone might be interested in.

But for the topic that it covers, it is definitely a superb resource and deserves the full 3 stars. I am personally not aware of any other comprehensive book on doing business in Dubai as this one is.
