Dubai Internet City - Raising Dubai's Technology to Another level
Sunil here to talk about the Dubai Internet City, a wonderland for the computer geek that I am.
And if you are concerned if you will be able to surf the internet when you visit Dubai, or are in the process of searching a job in Dubai related to information technology, you dont need to worry because
Dubai is rising in the world of computers and technology. There are a lot of information technology jobs in Dubai, as well as a solid and established internet connection.
Yes that is true given good or bad economic times.
That fact is that any growing (and more importantly rich) place will have strong demand for anything coming anywhere near the word Internet.
Do not challenge me on that.
I can sit here and discuss all the underlying fundamentals that support the brash statement I made just 10 seconds ago.
As evidence of Dubais technological advancement, the Dubai Internet City (DIC) was constructed by the government as a free economic zone that serves as a hub for information technology companies targeting regional emerging markets. The companies in Dubai Internet City can avail a number of ownership, taxation, and custom related benefits guaranteed by the government for a period of 50 years. Yes, Five-Zero!
Being a free economic zone, many companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Oracle Corporation, Sun Microsystems, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Nokia, Cognizant, Siemens, Nera Telecom, as well as the local IT companies i-mate and Acette, moved their regional bases in this Dubai information technology park. It is located near the other industrial hubs such as Dubai Media City and Dubai Knowledge Village.
The Dubai Internet City is situated about 25 kilometers south of downtown Dubai city, on Sheikh Zayed Road between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It is located adjacent to Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach Residence and the prestigious Palm Jumeirah, areas which are swiftly becoming three of the most exclusive and expensive residential areas of Dubai. DIC is less than 1 km from the sea coast and is near several five star hotels in Dubai.
Around 10,000 employees are based in the Dubai Internet City, which covers more than 1.5 million square feet of commercial offices of over 850 companies. DIC is a member of Dubai Holding subsidiary TECOM Investments and started its operation in October 2000. This place is the home to various information technology jobs in Dubai.
The DIC is the biggest internet and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure inside a free trade zone. It was designed to facilitate the business development of ICT companies.
Within a short span of time, many international ICT companies held their offices in the DIC. It became the center for companies aiming for new markets in the Middle East, Africa and the Indian subcontinent, covering over 2 billion people.
Big international ICT companies are based in DIC such as Microsoft, Oracle Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Dell, Siemens, Canon, and Ericsson. Numerous small and medium enterprises are also holding their offices in DIC.
The ICT clusters of DIC consist of companies from a wide variety of sectors such as business services, software development, e-commerce, consultancy, and sales and marketing.
Different programs were also developed in DIC which provides the ICT community a chance to learn and grow channel and business development opportunities. If you are technology savvy like me, or simply looking for an IT job, then the Dubai Internet City is the place to be. Read more about information technology jobs in Dubai here.
